This web-site has come about as a result of years of walking and appreciating that someone has placed a bench in just the right location for walkers to sit, rest and enjoy the view.
To my mind, there's nothing better than to sit on a bench for a while, watch the world go by and spend some time simply enjoying this amazing world. The humble bench is also a great place to eat your lunch and have a cup of tea or coffee, before continuing on your journey.
There must be many benches that have witnessed quite significant events, maybe great decisions made that have changed the course of history, or perhaps individual moments that have affected a persons' life in some way. There will have been many proposals of marriage given and received, friendships made and even broken. For some people, a bench is also a great place to spend time thinking about life and also communicating with God.
This web-site is an opportunity for people to share their 'favourite' benches so that they can be enjoyed by many more people. The more benches that can be shared by others, the better.
There are also probably many stories relating to benches that could be told and perhaps there will be an opportunity for a book or web-site to be written sometime - 'Tales from a bench' perhaps? If you would like to email your 'bench' stories to info@viewfromabench.co.uk we'll collect them for a possible future publication of some kind.
Where would we be without the humble bench - our lives would be much the poorer without them. Long live the bench !
