Whitby, North Yorkshire - ref. VFB_0024
Basic steel bench with amazing views overlooking Whitby. The view includes the red rooftops of the old east side houses, the layout of the harbour across to the bustle of the colour and noise of the amusements on the west side.
How to get there:
Whitby is on the east coast of North Yorkshire, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, 20 miles north of Scarborough, and about 30 miles east of Middlesborough.
From Whitby it is easy to find the Abbey ruins on the east cliff and St. Mary's church on the cliff top overlooking the town and harbour. The best approach is to walk from the car parks on the west side, crossing the harbour on the swing bridge and taking a left turn through narrow streets, find your way to the foot of the steps up to the church yard. After a brisk climb, take the path left and the bench is just outside the church overlooking the town.

Amenities: Lots of tea/coffee shops in Whitby.
Access: Steep climb up 199 steps from west side or an easier walk from the Abbey car park.
Unusual features or other information: The bench is dedicated to Harry and Rose Major. Harry was the church warden at St. Mary's for many years. To see a photograph of the actual bench click here.
