View over Winchester from St.Giles' Hill - ref. VFB_0023
An unusual bench ('The Fox') with a great view looking over the city of Winchester (Hampshire) from St. Giles' Hill. Good views of the main area of the city, the cathedral and King Arthur's statue. Nice wide-angle image, captured as dusk is falling over the city.
How to get there:
Closest road to St. Giles hill is Baring Road, off the B3404 at the top of the hill. There are also paths leading up the hill from Winchester - up Magdalen Hill. Bench is located on the far side of the green, about half-way along its length. Locate the bench on detailed map
here.
Amenities: None, but Winchester has a number of good tea/coffee shops and lots to look at. About 10 minutes walk into Winchester centre.
Access: Good footpaths providing access around St. Giles' Hill although quite a steep walk up from the centre of Winchester.
Unusual features or other information: Bench is made of wrought iron work, with the backrest incorporating an image of a fox.
