How to get there: The twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth are situated on the North Devon coast on the edge of Exmoor. Lynmouth is located on the A39 coast road which runs from Minehead through to Barnstaple and is about 15 miles west of Minehead. From the A39 take the B3234 at Barbook into Lynton. The bench is situated near the top of Station Road on the way out of Lynton. Locate the bench on detailed map here. Amenities: Lynton and Lynmouth are both lovely north Devon towns with a number of tea shops serving great cream teas and other refreshments.
Access: Access from Station Road is good, but it is a pretty steep hill.
Unusual features or other information: The Lynton & Lynmouth cliff railway was built in 1890 to provide easier access between the two towns. It is a unique water powered railway, which transports people up and down the 862 ft high cliffs. More recently, on Friday 15 August 1952, the town of Lynmouth was the scene of tragic flooding which killed 15 people when the two rivers East and West Lyn flooded into the town, following torrential rain over Exmoor.
