Wilberforce Oak, Keston, Kent - ref. VFB_0040
A stone bench commemorating the place where William Wilberforce MP decided to put forward the Bill for the Abolition of the Slave Trade (May 1787).
How to get there:
Keston is near the A233, a couple of miles south east of Bromley, Kent. There is car-parking in the forest area for the nature trail around the Holwood estate. The bench is located within the Holwood estate just a short walk from the car park overlooking the Vale of Keston. Locate the memorial bench on a detailed map

Unusual features or other information: The plaque on the bench has an extract from Wilberforce's diary as follows: At length, I well remember, after a conversation with Mr. Pitt in the open air at the root of an old tree at Holwood just above the steep descent into the vale of Keston, I resolved to give notice on a fit occasion in the House of Commons of my intention to bring forward the abolition of the slave trade.
